We bring interior design to life at the Mathes Store. And it got really lively here last November. The occasion was the official opening of our Vitra and HAY pop-up shop. We were delighted that CEO Nora Fehlbaum accepted our invitation to a Design Talk round table. HAY founder Rolf Hay also came to see us in Aachen. That's not something that happens every day!
Design enthusiasts had a good three months to come and browse our pop-up shop in-store. Vitra and HAY under one roof – for the first time ever in Germany. The idea was for modern, democratic design to meet Bauhaus and Scandinavian cool.
Thomas Mathes welcomed two icons of interior design to our round table event: Nora Fehlbaum (CEO Vitra) and Rolf Hay (founder of HAY). Topics included current international trends and the challenges faced by the furniture sector. The interesting round table was moderated by Aachen-based architect Gerd Wittfeld of KadaWittfeld.
Insight: The Vitra mobile lounge chair studio
There were plenty of exciting things to discover away from the round table too. For example the manufacture of one of the most iconic pieces of furniture: the Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames. Our guests could watch it being made in the Vitra mobile studio all close-up and personal.
