The Eames classic reissued in a rare historic color – available in our furniture store.
Charles and Ray Eames had been working on a chair with a continuous seat shell for years before they were able to present the Fiberglass Chairs in 1950 as a realization of this idea. The chairs, which have since matured into one of the most important classics of furniture design in the 20th century, were the first to have the seat and backrest connected in a continuous seat shell. The Eames developed the groundbreaking design against the backdrop of a changing society: Fiberglass had never been used for furniture before, and the lightweight chairs, with their organic shape and then-unusual color, brought a new dynamism to homes – and soon to offices and public spaces.
In spring 2023, Vitra is bringing the distinctive color back to the market with the Eames Fiberglass Side Chair Turquoise. The limited edition of 500 shells is available in two versions: as DSR with black wire base or as DSW with legs in dark maple wood.
